The Melanesian Spearhead Group and the Commonwealth are just a few of the international election observer groups that have confirmed their attendance during PNG’s National Election, following an invite from the PNG Government.
Sir Francis Billy Hilly, a former Solomon Islands Prime Minister will lead the MSG election observer group.
He will be accompanied by former Fiji president, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, election officials Mr. Martin Tete (Vanuatu), Mr. Mohamed Saneem (Fiji), Secretary to the MSG Chair, Mr. Renee Sore and a member of the political bureau of the FLNKS, Mr. Phillipe Ajapunya.
Sir Francis signed an Agreement of Service for his most recent engagement with the Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, the MSG Chair.
This will be Sir Francis third time to head an election observer mission, having headed the MSG observer group during Fiji and Vanuatu’s National Elections in 2014 and 2016 (respectively).
Nationwide Polling is scheduled to begin June 24, ending July 8.
