O’Neill: A Right Attitude is Vital in Leadership


Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has challenged heads of Pacific Public Services to have right attitude in their leadership.

The three day 2017 Pacific Public Service Commissioners Conference (PPSCC) started yesterday [May 23, 2017 ] in Port Moresby.

The theme of the conference is ‘Ethical and Value – Based Leadership and Governance in the Pacific’.

“Having been a Public Service Minister for many years and having closely worked with (Department of Personnel Management) secretary (John) Kali, I (understand) what the public service machinery of each countries continue to face,” O’Neill said on Monday when officially launching the conference.

“This is why this conference of values and ethics, and based leadership is an important one so we can continue to highlight what we can do, and of course take advantage of many of those opportunities that are there for us in our respective countries.”

The Public Service in the Pacific Region continues to be the major employers of many island states.

PPSCC began in 2004 and provides an avenue for Pacific Public Service Commissioners to discuss public sector issues, share information and experiences, and corporate to promote public service excellence for the Pacific.

It comprises of commissioners from Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Palau, PNG, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
