The purpose of this technical cooperation project is to strengthen the capacity of the Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA) to periodically maintain and populate the GHG Inventory using accurate and time-series consistent data and estimates for emissions and removals of greenhouse gases in Papua New Guinea.

The GHG Inventory will help the Government of Papua New Guinea meet its international obligations to report to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Government of Japan’s contribution to this project will include provision of technical GHG experts, technical training on GHG inventory systems for PNG government officials and possible provision of equipment where necessary to implement the project.

Both the Governments of Papua New Guinea and Japan will finalise the framework for this new Technical Co-operation Project by signing the Official Minutes of Meeting (MM). The signed Minutes of Meeting (MM) is the first step to formalise the project arrangements and to seek technical assistance from the Government of Japan to implement this project in Papua New Guinea.
